
Exfiltrated at the age of 3 from Framingham, MA, to an African Brazilian tropical paradise and sleepy town across the bay from Rio de Janeiro, its Jersey City, Jim grew up in a multilingual, multicultural melee of colors, textures, aromas, flavors, music, dance, song, Atlantic tropical rainforest mixed with megalopolis. Since childhood Jim created artwork in pen & ink, paint, fabric, mud, surrounded by gardens of all kinds. At age 10, Jim got his first Brownie box camera, progressing to 8mm film and 35mm Nikon precision. Educated in Mathematics and Physics, with graduate courses in Computer Science, at age 60 Jim went back to his early love of art, inspired by Medieval Cathedrals, Daoist paintings, Japanese prints, prehistoric cavepainting, Pre-Columbian architecture, Mexican murals, Bauhaus, LeCorbusier, Gaudi, Rembrandt, Vermeer, Cezanne, Kandisky, Munch, Klimt, Steiglitz, Adams, Lange, Kahlo, O’Keefe, many more. Currently Jim’s artwork includes Pen & Ink Drawing, Linocut Prints, Acrylic Painting, Organic Perennial Garden Design, and Still Photography, mostly inspired by Mother Nature, Nudes and Abstract images seen on country hikes and walkabouts in town. Jim was awarded First Prize in Photography, Hudson Artist of New Jersey; his photography is in the collection of the Senator Adam Clayton Powell Jr New York State Office Building Gallery, Harlem, NJ, and numerous private collections.
