Art150 Lobby exhibition at 157A 1st St featuring photographs by Susan Evans Grove and monotypes by Kim Bricker. The exhibition presents a selection of abstract landscapes that suggest both physical resilience and emotional calm despite the ravages of time and tide. Susan Evans Grove will draw from her On the Hard series of stormy seascapes found on the side of boat hulls in dry dock. Like cave paintings, each of these vessels has recorded the storms they have traversed. Etched in their hulls these images pay tribute to the power of the sea and remind us we are not in control of nature. Kim Bricker will show miniature landscapes inspired by her connection to the Chesapeake Bay, recent travels to Cape Cod, and her childhood at the Jersey Shore. While exploring the color, light, and form that characterize specific places and places in time, her work is driven by the human connections to places, the effects of memory and nostalgia, and a personal reckoning with environmental changes.
